Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood

Not everything worth watching was left behind in the 90s. Though many would be hard pressed to find anything that matched its colour and freedom, the fact remains there are some bands and artists whose very livelihood depends on a character. Lo and behold, The Gorillaz come seemingly out of nowhere with quite literally some of the most animated characters of any band I’ve come across.

Their debut single “Clint Eastwood” is a a definite piece of cult pop history, with its pisstake on common horror film tropes (obviously the most accessible and more iterated being that of the zombie apocalypse) and pop icons (yes, that is a gorilla-led Thriller dance that you see). It’s probably one of the most interesting things to come out of that burgeoning era of limbo following the dying prestige and pomp of the 90s.
